Accepted name: |
IgA-specific metalloendopeptidase |
Reaction: |
Cleavage of Pro┼Thr bond in the hinge region of the heavy chain of human IgA |
Other name(s): |
immunoglobulin A1 proteinase; IgA protease; IgA1-specific proteinase; IgA1 protease; IgA1 proteinase |
Comments: |
A 190 kDa enzyme found in several pathogenic species of Streptococcus such as sanguis and pneumoniae. Type example of peptidase family M26. There is also an IgA-specific prolyl endopeptidase of the serine-type (see EC 3.4.21.72, IgA-specific serine endopeptidase) |
